Born in
Brooklyn, NY as Patricia Lameeka Foster. She is the oldest of 6 siblings. She noticed at a young age that she had a voice
and she wanted everyone to hear it. She says, "My mother told me that my first word was hi and I literally would use it to
my advantage. Approaching all types of people on the street saying hi, hi, hi, and putting a smile on peoples faces!”
At five her mother moved her and her two younger sister’s to Florida but soon after her younger sister’s were
back in NY and it was Patricia her mother and her new born younger brother . At the age of seven she had done her first performance
in a second grade Christmas play at Driftwood Elementary in Hollywood, Florida. This is where her music teacher told her,
“ No Patricia, you will not be singing with the choir.” “Sad because I couldn’t figure out why I asked
her.. Why NOT?” She said, “Because I want you to have a lead solo in this play.” Even though she says she
was honored she had no idea that this was the beginning of her destiny as a soloist.
After about five years her sisters
returned to Florida from NY. It was then that she discovered that they also had the ability to sing as well. It wasn’t
until 1997 that someone suggested that they start a girl group. Calling themselves “Shadez of Essence”, a name
given to them by their friend Pam. Singing for years they won numerous talent shows, were apart of a creative arts
unit, and even at family get-togethers. They even won Talent Tuesday on 99 Jams a few times. Coming up with their own jingle
for the station.
Unfortunately, without the proper guidance and a constant add and subtraction of members the group
eventually became null and void. Leaving her back at just one. So where does it go from there you ask? Patricia continued
on singing and writing just as she had done all those years before but it wasn’t until she was introduced to the open
mic scene by one of her closes friends that she knew it was time to fulfill her destiny as a solo artist. It wasn’t
until performing her first solo attempt at Chris Imperials, “ Sunday Night Live” did it become real to her. She
had finally discover that solo might be the way to go. Since then she has performed at numerous venues to include; St. Petersburg’s
own -The Lobby, Chris Imperial’s- Sunday Night Live, Terri’s- Voicez and Vybez poetry nights, Will the Real Ones-
Literary Café and Juke Joint , and even a few private events out in the Groves. Performing under the alias of Mz. Pat she
finally decided on the name Love Jones. When asked why the sudden change she said, “ Well, I looked for something that
described me, who I am as not only a artist but as a person. I went through about a 100 names before I chose LOVE. I felt
it described me so… well because I can’t seem to escape it so I figured why not embrace it. You know! Then I thought
of my most effective influence and constant inspiration. He is a Jones and it is sort of a dedication to him as well as to
me, because you ever heard them say, “I got a Jones in my bones?” Well, I definitely do! As well as in my heart
and my spirit. That‘s why I chose LOVE JONES.”
So where does it go from there… “All
I know is I love music and where it will lead me only God knows!” she says with a smile bright as the sun on her face.
“Only God knows!”
